Tragic Death at Dabolim Highway Site: NGO Files Complaint Against MVR Contractor
Vasco Da Gama, Goa | May 29, 2025 — In a tragic incident that has once again raised serious concerns about worker safety on infrastructure projects, Mr. Maruti Jadhav, a laborer working on the elevated highway construction at Dabolim, lost his life on May 28th due to alleged negligence by the contractor MVR and its associated personnel.
The non-governmental organization Niz Goenkar Fauz (NGF), led by its president Mr. Suresh Saji Naik, has formally lodged a complaint with the Deputy Collector of Mormugao Taluka, demanding immediate legal action against the MVR Project Manager, Safety Officer, and Site Supervisor/Engineer.
According to NGF, Mr. Jadhav fell into an unprotected excavation pit around 11:00 AM on Wednesday. The organization alleges that the contractor failed to implement necessary safety protocols at the site, despite repeated complaints from local residents about unsafe working conditions, lack of barricades, and inadequate protective gear for workers.
“This is not the first time such negligence has cost a life. This is the fourth fatal accident we know of at this site in recent times,” said Mr. Naik. “The contractor’s repeated failure to maintain basic safety measures has now resulted in an irreversible tragedy for Mr. Jadhav’s family and trauma for the local community.”
The NGO has demanded the arrest of all individuals responsible and a thorough investigation into the matter. It has also called for immediate enforcement of safety norms at all ongoing construction sites in the taluka to prevent further loss of life.
“Niz Goenkar Fauz stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and will continue to fight for justice. We appeal to the authorities to take strict action and ensure that such a tragedy does not repeat,” Mr. Naik added.
The complaint has been officially submitted at the Office of the Deputy Collector, Mormugao, Vasco Da Gama, Goa.
