Setback for Aam Aadmi Party as 15 MCD Councillors Resign, Form Indraprastha Vikas Party
New Delhi | May 18, 2025: In a significant political setback for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), 15 sitting councillors of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have resigned from the party and announced the formation of a new political outfit — Indraprastha Vikas Party.
The group of dissident leaders is being led by Mukesh Goel, who served as the Leader of the House for AAP in the MCD, and Himani Jain. The councillors held a press conference on Saturday to formally announce the launch of the new party. They cited internal conflicts, lack of leadership, and stalled development work as the key reasons behind their decision to exit AAP.
“No significant work has been completed in the municipal corporation over the past two-and-a-half years. The infighting within the party has made it impossible to function,” said Himani Jain.
Mukesh Goel added, “We formed Indraprastha Vikas Party because we want to work for the real development of Delhi. We are willing to support any party that puts the national capital’s growth and welfare first.”
The development is expected to shake up the current political dynamics in the MCD and could potentially weaken AAP’s majority in the civic body.
