Netanyahu Orders Global Security Boost After Deadly Shooting Near Israeli Embassy in Washington

Washington, D.C., May 22 – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed profound shock and grief following the killing of two staff members from the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C. The fatal shooting occurred near the Jewish Museum, where the American Jewish Committee was hosting an event early this morning.

In response to the tragic incident, Netanyahu has ordered an immediate reinforcement of security at all Israeli diplomatic missions around the world. “This is a heinous act of violence against our diplomatic community. We will not rest until the full truth is uncovered and our people are safe,” he said in an official statement.

The Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez from Chicago, is in custody. Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind the attack.

U.S. President Donald Trump strongly condemned the shooting, stating, “Hatred and radicalism have no place in the United States. We stand with our ally Israel in this difficult moment.”

The international community has also voiced its outrage. Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and several other European nations issued statements condemning the attack and offering condolences to the families of the victims.

The Israeli government has vowed to closely coordinate with U.S. law enforcement to ensure justice is served.
