Jio Partners with SpaceX to Bring Starlink High-Speed Internet to India

A Milestone Agreement to Expand Digital Connectivity Across the Nation

Mumbai, 12th March 2025: Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) has announced a groundbreaking agreement with SpaceX to offer Starlink’s broadband internet services to customers in India. This partnership is a significant step towards enhancing digital connectivity, especially in rural and remote regions. However, the agreement remains subject to SpaceX securing regulatory approvals from the Indian government.

Through this collaboration, Jio will integrate Starlink’s satellite-based internet services into its existing broadband ecosystem, which includes JioFiber and JioAirFiber. Customers will be able to access Starlink solutions via Jio’s retail outlets and online platforms. Additionally, Jio will provide installation, activation, and customer support for Starlink equipment, ensuring seamless access to high-speed internet.

Mathew Oommen, Group CEO of Reliance Jio, highlighted the importance of this partnership, stating, “Ensuring that every Indian, no matter where they live, has access to affordable and high-speed broadband remains Jio’s top priority. Our collaboration with SpaceX to bring Starlink to India strengthens our commitment and marks a transformative step toward seamless broadband connectivity for all.”

Gwynne Shotwell, President and Chief Operating Officer of SpaceX, praised Jio’s commitment to India’s digital transformation, adding, “We are looking forward to working with Jio and receiving authorization from the Government of India to provide more people, organizations, and businesses with access to Starlink’s high-speed internet services.”

Expanding India’s Digital Infrastructure

Jio, already the world’s largest mobile operator in terms of data traffic, will leverage Starlink’s advanced low Earth orbit satellite technology to bridge the connectivity gap in underserved regions. By integrating Starlink into its broadband portfolio, Jio aims to make high-speed internet more accessible and affordable, supporting businesses, communities, and digital initiatives nationwide.

Beyond internet services, Jio and SpaceX are also exploring additional areas of collaboration to further strengthen India’s digital ecosystem. This partnership aligns with India’s vision of becoming a global leader in digital infrastructure and connectivity.
