IndiGo Flight Forced to Return to Delhi After Sudden Blackout and Suspected Drone Activity in Amritsar
NEW DELHI, MAY 12: In a dramatic development on Monday evening, an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Amritsar (6E 2045) was forced to return to the national capital after a sudden blackout and suspected drone activity disrupted operations at Amritsar airport. The incident occurred just as the airport was preparing to resume full commercial services after May 7.
The flight, which took off from Delhi at 8:26 PM, was mid-air when air traffic control issued a security alert, prompting the aircraft to abort its landing. As per standard operating procedure (SOP), the flight made a U-turn and safely landed back in Delhi at approximately 9:15 PM.
According to multiple sources, the blackout at the airport is believed to have been triggered by suspected drone activity in the region, although officials have yet to confirm the exact cause. Notably, this flight was supposed to be the first commercial arrival following the recommencement of services at Amritsar Airport.
Air security agencies are now on high alert across Punjab, with multiple reports of unidentified aerial objects and drone sightings near key installations adding to the concern. A few other commercial flights were also rerouted to avoid overflying the area as a precautionary measure.
IndiGo and aviation authorities have not released an official statement yet, but investigations are underway to determine the nature of the threat and ensure safe resumption of services.
