Porvorim 07 August: In a progressive move to bolster animal welfare initiatives across the state, Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant launched a dedicated Sterilisation Vehicle under the Goa Small Animals Rescue Management Scheme 2014. The launch ceremony took place at the Goa Assembly Complex and marks a significant development in the humane management of stray animals.
The initiative has been spearheaded by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Government of Goa. Present on the occasion were Animal Husbandry & Fisheries Minister Shri Nilkanth Halarnkar, MLAs Shri Daji Salkar, Shri Sankalp Amonkar, and several other dignitaries who expressed their commitment to animal welfare and public health.
The Sterilisation Vehicle, facilitated through the Village Panchayat of Cansaulim-Arossim-Cuelim, Mormugao Taluka, has now been formally handed over to People For Animals Goa, a leading NGO actively involved in animal rescue and sterilisation efforts. The mobile unit will significantly enhance on-ground sterilisation drives, reducing stray populations in a humane and systematic manner.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said, “Goa is committed to implementing effective and compassionate animal welfare policies. The introduction of this sterilisation vehicle will go a long way in managing stray populations and promoting a healthier coexistence between humans and animals.”
The initiative is expected to benefit both urban and rural areas, particularly where access to veterinary facilities remains limited. By taking sterilisation services directly to the field, the government aims to strengthen its commitment to animal rights and public sanitation.
