Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane Highlights Life-Saving Emergency Medical Response in Late-Night Critical Case
Panaji, June 4:
Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane shared a powerful testament to the state’s commitment to emergency medical care through a social media post titled “Ensuring Health for All with swift, expert response”, showcasing a remarkable late-night intervention by the 108 emergency medical team.
At 10:08 PM on the night of June 3rd, a critical Inter-Facility Transfer (IFT) case was assigned to the Cardiac Care Ambulance (108). The emergency call came from Borkar Hospital, Margao, requesting an immediate transfer to Goa Medical College (GMC) for a 72-year-old unconscious patient with severe health complications.
The patient was in an extremely critical condition — suffering from multiple comorbidities including Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), respiratory distress, and septic shock. Unconscious and intubated, the patient’s oxygen saturation had plummeted to a dangerous 71%, prompting an urgent need for advanced life support care.
A highly trained team was immediately dispatched:
- EMT A Sanjay Zoro
- EMT A Senha Fernandes
- Dr. Geetanjali Borkar
- Pilot Mr. Ravindra Gaonkar
Working with extraordinary precision, the team ensured:
- Ventilator support with continuous monitoring
- Immediate ECG and suctioning
- Proper positioning and supervision during transit
- Patient’s oxygen saturation improved to 96% enroute
- Continuous ambu bag ventilation until safe handover at GMC
Minister Rane praised the 108 emergency team for their swift and professional response, describing the effort as “a shining example of how robust emergency medical services are saving lives every day in Goa.”
He further reiterated Goa’s unwavering commitment to healthcare, saying,
“Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, and the able guidance of Union Health Minister Shri J.P. Nadda ji, we are committed to ensuring timely, accessible, and quality healthcare for every Goan.”
The story stands as a testament to the capabilities of Goa’s emergency health infrastructure, especially in high-risk situations involving elderly patients with serious medical conditions.
