Goa Forward Party Chief Vijay Sardesai Slams CM Over Marathi Film Festival Space Allocation

Goa Forward Party Chief Vijay Sardesai Slams CM Over Marathi Film Festival Space Allocation

Margao 09 August 2025: Fatorda MLA and Goa Forward Party President Vijay Sardesai has accused Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant of going back on his own promise regarding the representation of Goan artists in state-level film festivals.

In a strongly worded social media post, Sardesai recalled that during the proceedings of the Goa Legislative Assembly, CM Sawant had assured the House that the controversial 15% Goan vs. 85% non-Goan participation ratio in the State Film Festival would be reversed. However, Sardesai alleged that the recent developments at the Marathi Film Festival in Goa tell a different story.

According to Sardesai, the Chief Minister not only welcomed filmmakers from Maharashtra but also urged them to take 70% of the available space, leaving Goan creators to compete for the remaining 30%. He termed this move as “a betrayal of Goan artists and a breach of the CM’s own assurance.”

“This is not just about numbers; it’s about respect and opportunity for local talent. Goan filmmakers should be given platforms to showcase their creativity without being sidelined,” Sardesai stated.

The Fatorda MLA reiterated that Goan talent deserves more than token representation and called on the government to uphold its commitments to local artists.
