This marks the first budget of the newly formed BJP-led Delhi Government and is expected to shape the future of the capital city by focusing on infrastructure, economic growth, and social welfare.

In her statement, Mrs. Gupta announced a budget outlay of Rs 1 lakh crore, emphasizing growth and development across all sectors. She termed the budget as “historic”, adding that it aims to transform Delhi into a global infrastructure hub. The Chief Minister stated that the budget has been designed to ensure inclusive development and sustainable economic growth for all sections of society.

Key Highlights of the Budget:
✅ Capital Expenditure: Over Rs 28,000 crore allocated, nearly double the previous budget, to boost infrastructure and public services.

A Budget for Growth and Development
The Chief Minister emphasized that the budget prioritizes inclusive growth, infrastructure, and social welfare. She added that developmental projects in transport, healthcare, and education would take center stage to improve the quality of life for Delhi’s residents.

Infrastructure and Transport
One of the major focuses of the budget is to enhance infrastructure and connectivity in Delhi. With over Rs 28,000 crore allocated for capital expenditure, the government aims to double metro connectivity, improve roads, and expand electric bus fleets to make public transport more efficient. Additionally, plans have been made to enhance last-mile connectivity in underdeveloped regions of the city.

Empowerment of Women and Social Welfare
A major highlight of the budget is the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, which has been allotted Rs 5,100 crore. This scheme is expected to empower women financially by providing them with better access to education, job opportunities, and skill development programs. This initiative aligns with the government’s vision of making Delhi a city that promotes gender equality and economic self-sufficiency for women.

Additionally, the introduction of Atal Canteen will ensure that the underprivileged sections of society have access to affordable meals. With a budget allocation of Rs 100 crore, these canteens will serve nutritious food at subsidized rates, addressing food insecurity in the city.

Education and Healthcare Reforms
Recognizing the need for an advanced education system, the Delhi Government has earmarked significant funds for upgrading schools, hiring trained teachers, and integrating technology into classrooms. The Chief Minister emphasized that the education sector is a key priority, with plans to introduce smart classrooms and skill-based training programs to make students job-ready.

In the healthcare sector, the government has planned to modernize hospitals, introduce mobile health clinics, and improve emergency response services. Increased budget allocation will ensure that residents have better access to affordable and high-quality healthcare services.

Environmental Sustainability and Green Initiatives
The Delhi Government has also committed to tackling pollution and promoting sustainability. A portion of the budget has been allocated for expanding green spaces, promoting electric vehicles, and improving waste management systems. These initiatives will contribute to making Delhi a cleaner and greener city.

Legislative Proceedings and Public Reactions
The Delhi Assembly will debate the budget tomorrow, with the budget session continuing until March 28. The Chief Minister has urged all members to support this budget, stating that it reflects the aspirations of the people of Delhi.

The budget has received mixed reactions from different stakeholders. While many have praised its focus on infrastructure, women’s empowerment, and social welfare, some opposition leaders have raised concerns about its feasibility and the implementation of projects. Experts believe that if executed properly, this budget could significantly enhance Delhi’s economic and social landscape.

The Delhi Budget 2025-26 sets an ambitious roadmap for the city’s growth. With a strong focus on infrastructure, healthcare, education, and women’s empowerment, the government aims to create a progressive and sustainable future for Delhi’s residents. The coming days will be crucial in determining how the proposals will be received in the Assembly and how they will be implemented effectively.
