Baloch Nationalist Leaders Declare Independence from Pakistan

#BalochFreedom: Baloch Nationalist Leaders Declare Independence from Pakistan
May 15, 2025 | News Baba Online
In a historic and dramatic development, Baloch nationalist leaders have declared independence from Pakistan, citing more than seven decades of systemic violence, enforced disappearances, and human rights violations in the Balochistan region. The announcement has sparked massive waves of reaction across social media platforms, where images of the proposed national flag and maps of an independent Baloch state flooded timelines. The hashtag #RepublicOfBalochistan trended widely, with global observers closely watching the unfolding events.
Prominent Baloch activist and writer Mir Yar Baloch shared a powerful message, claiming that people across Pakistan-occupied Balochistan have taken to the streets in mass protests, boldly declaring that “Balochistan is not Pakistan.” In his statement, he called on the international community and the United Nations to formally recognize the “Democratic Republic of Balochistan” as a sovereign and independent state.
Akashvani Correspondent reports that the roots of the Baloch independence movement trace back to 1947. Following the partition of British India, the princely state of Kalat briefly declared independence before it was forcibly annexed by Pakistan in 1948 — a move never accepted by Baloch nationalists. Since then, the region has seen periodic uprisings, violent crackdowns, and a long-standing demand for autonomy or complete independence.
Activists like Mir Yar Baloch argue that Balochistan’s rich reserves of natural gas, minerals, and other resources have been systematically exploited by the Pakistani state, leaving the local population in poverty and neglect. Balochistan continues to be Pakistan’s poorest and least developed province, despite its strategic importance and resource wealth.
In a significant diplomatic overture, the newly declared Baloch leadership has reportedly requested the Government of India to allow the establishment of a Balochistan embassy in New Delhi, seeking formal ties and regional support.
As tensions rise and developments unfold, the international community is being urged to respond to the humanitarian and political dimensions of the Baloch struggle.
