AITC Goa Slams BJP’s Tourism Policy Failure; Demands the Removal of the Tourism Minister
Panaji May 16: The All India Trinamool Congress Goa today held a press conference addressed by Mr. Mariano Rodrigues, Convenor, AITC Goa, and Mr. Trajano D’Mello, National Spokesperson, slamming the BJP government’s failure in managing Goa’s tourism sector. Referring to Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte’s recent admission that Goa is becoming unaffordable and unattractive.
The AITC highlighted how local hoteliers struggle due to the unregulated growth of villas and aggregator platforms. Comparing Goa’s declining competitiveness to other destinations, the leaders cited rising costs, poor infrastructure, and unresolved chronic issues such as transport chaos and beach safety as reasons tourists turn away from the state. They also exposed the gap between government claims of growth and ground realities like empty beaches and falling foreign tourist numbers.
Calling for immediate action, AITC demanded a comprehensive tourism policy that ensures fairness, sustainability, and protects Goan livelihoods. The party urged the government to regulate unlicensed stays, invest in public infrastructure, and create a long-term vision for tourism that goes beyond casinos and unchecked development.
