Government is promoting Alcohol Shops in the name of Tourism Promotion,

While speaking to media Olencio Simoes  teacher by profession Demands immediate withdrawal of notification dated 25.06.2024, and demands stricter amendments to arrest /control on high alcohol intake among Goans especially among youth.

Simoes stated that in the recent incident in Cortalim constituency is an eye opener to the government, it is sad to know that even after the excise duty rules bans the sale of alcohol within 100meters there has still been illegal stores which are mushrooming within 100meters of education and religious places, it is unfortunate that the excise department has given a blind eye to such illegalities.

It has been reported thatmore than 300 cases of alcohol related death is registered in GMC itself which is more than road accidents in the State of Goa.

Simoēs stated that In the name of tourism is the Government of Goa destroying the future of Youth over revenue ?  Simoes stated that instead of excise department sealing the illegal sale of alcohol within 100meter in the contrary allowed new permission within 100meters of education & religious institute which is not only an insult to religious institute but is a act of criminal negligence ,as this will destroy the social and cultural fabric of Goa,as alcohol today will be available within 100mts of education institutes and religious places which will infact led to more women crimes in the state of Goa.

Therefore he demand that this notification to be withdrawn with immediate affect and the government  should work towards saving the life’s of all alcoholics and bringing stricter measures for the sale of alcohol inthe state of Goa specially in such gullable areas
