Urban Development Minister Charts Roadmap for “Green Lung” Concept in Goa’s Municipalities
Panjim, Goa 28 April: In a decisive step towards promoting sustainable urban development, the Urban Development Minister today chaired a high-level meeting with senior officials from the Forest Department, Urban Development Department, and representatives from StudioPOD. The agenda focused on implementing the “Green Lung” concept across Goa’s municipalities, aiming to integrate thoughtfully designed open spaces that enhance ecological balance, improve air quality, and offer citizens much-needed green areas within urban limits.
The Minister emphasized that these green zones would not only beautify cities but also serve as crucial spaces for residents to reconnect with nature, fostering a healthier, more climate-resilient environment.
Discussions during the meeting revolved around strategies to ensure the Green Lung concept is deeply rooted in functionality, sustainability, and long-term impact. It was decided that a dedicated committee will be constituted to oversee and monitor the progress of this ambitious initiative. StudioPOD will work in close coordination with both the Forest and Urban Development departments to ensure seamless execution.
The Minister also reaffirmed that Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji’s vision for sustainable development continues to inspire and guide these initiatives.
A few days earlier, the Minister had chaired a similar session with the Mayor of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), Chairpersons of various Municipal Councils, and Chief Officers, signaling a cohesive and coordinated approach towards urban greening across Goa.
“As we move ahead, our goal remains steadfast – making Goa more liveable, sustainable, and resilient to climate change challenges,” the Minister added.
