Topper But No Internship? Bisma Fareed’s Viral LinkedIn Post Sparks Nationwide Debate on Skills vs. Marks
By News Baba Online | April 22, 2025
In a heartfelt and brutally honest LinkedIn post that’s now gone viral, Bisma Fareed – a self-proclaimed academic topper – shared her struggle of not being able to secure an internship despite her stellar academic record. Her post, titled “I’m a topper or MUJHE INTERNSHIP NHI MIL RHI!”, has struck a chord with thousands of students and professionals across India.
“Yes, it took a lot in me to accept the fact that SKILLS matter more than MARKS, or tum bhi jaldi karlo to better rahega,” she wrote, candidly admitting the harsh reality of the current job market.
According to Bisma, most of the internship interviews she attended began with one key question: “What are your skills?” — not her academic scores. Despite boasting 50+ certificates, 10+ medals, and 10+ trophies, none of them helped her land an internship.
“Mai to prepared hi nahi thi is question ke liye! All my professors and relatives said: padhai kaam aayegi, ye nahi!” she added.
Bisma’s post challenges the conventional narrative of academic excellence being the sole path to success. She argues that skill-based hiring is now the norm and urges students to develop and master real-world skills alongside their studies.
She ended her post with a rhetorical jab:
“HOW MUCH DID Y’ALL SCORE IN CLASS 10TH? Bhool gaye na? Or agar yaad hai to tell me HOW DID THEY HELP YOU OR MATTER IN YOUR LIFE?”
The post has garnered thousands of likes, shares, and comments — with many young professionals sharing similar stories of academic achievement falling short in real-world applications.
In a follow-up edit, Bisma humorously noted:
“Guys I think I broke LinkedIn on a random Friday morning. I can’t be more grateful. Thank You so much people!”
Her story is now becoming a symbol of a larger shift — one where the job market increasingly rewards practical skills, adaptability, and real experience over rote memorization and textbook knowledge.
