Goa Reached a Milestone in Waste Management: CM Dr. Pramod Sawant Inaugurates State-of-the-Art Hazardous Waste Facility in Sattari
Pissurlem Industrial Estate, Sattari 14 August 2025– In a landmark step towards sustainable environmental management, Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, along with Poriem MLA Dr. Deviya Rane, inaugurated the Common Hazardous Waste Treatment Storage & Disposal Facility (CHWTSDF), set up by the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) in collaboration with Ponda Envocare Limited (PEL) and GIEMA. The inauguration took place in the presence of former MP Shri Ajay Sancheti and other distinguished guests.
With an investment exceeding ₹125 crore under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, this cutting-edge facility is expected to serve Goa for the next 100 years, ensuring scientific, safe, and sustainable treatment of hazardous waste.
🔹 Key Highlights:
- All industries in Goa will now route hazardous waste exclusively through PEL, under strict monitoring by GWMC.
- The facility, guided by renowned environmental expert Padma Shri Dr. Sharad Kale, is designed to ensure zero negative impact on surrounding communities.
- Significant local employment opportunities will be created.
- Goa will continue to be a knowledge partner to the Government of India in the field of waste management.
Speaking at the event, CM Dr. Pramod Sawant hailed the initiative as a “historic milestone for Goa’s environmental future”, reinforcing the state’s commitment to a cleaner, greener, and sustainable ecosystem.
This modern facility reflects Goa’s vision of combining technology, expertise, and environmental responsibility—a giant leap towards making the state a model for the rest of India in hazardous waste management.
