Nagpur, October 12: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Dr. Mohan Bhagwat expressed deep concern over the rising incidents of violence against women in India, lamenting that such crimes reflect a disturbing nexus between crime and politics. Speaking at the Vijayadashami function in Nagpur, marking the 99th foundation day of the RSS, Bhagwat specifically mentioned the recent shameful incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
“The incident at RG Kar hospital is a disgrace to our society,” Bhagwat said during his address. He stressed that such acts are not isolated but result from the growing intertwining of crime and political interests, making it difficult to ensure justice. “It is high time that society unites to dismantle these harmful alliances,” he added.
Bhagwat used the Vijayadashami platform—an occasion of significant cultural and symbolic importance for the RSS—to urge governments and citizens to work together toward ensuring women’s safety and dignity. “A society that fails to protect its women loses its moral standing,” he emphasized.
The RSS Chief also called for introspection and collective efforts to combat the underlying issues contributing to such violence, reiterating the importance of fostering values like respect, responsibility, and accountability at every level of society.
The annual Vijayadashami celebration, held at the RSS headquarters in Nagpur, draws thousands of swayamsevaks and dignitaries. This year’s event carried additional significance as the organization approaches its centenary, with Bhagwat’s speech setting the tone for the RSS’s priorities and concerns moving forward.
Bhagwat concluded his address with a message of unity, stating, “Vijayadashami symbolizes the victory of good over evil. As citizens, it is our duty to ensure that evil in any form—be it crime, corruption, or injustice—is uprooted from our society.”
The incident at RG Kar hospital and Bhagwat’s sharp remarks have stirred reactions across political circles, with several leaders now being called upon to take decisive steps to address women’s safety.
