Row Over Transfer of Goa Police Sports Cell Officer Sparks Controversy

Community Demands Justification for PI Raia Naik’s Sudden Transfer

Mormugao: The transfer of Police Inspector (PI) Raia Naik from the Goa Police Sports Cell has triggered strong condemnation from members of the Mormugao Bhandari Samaj. The community is questioning the decision, citing a lack of transparency and a clear reason behind the move.

During a press briefing, several prominent figures expressed concerns over the fairness of the transfer. Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) councillor Vinod Kinlekar raised doubts about the rationale behind the decision, emphasizing that all teams under PI Naik’s leadership had been excelling in various sports.

Former MMC councillor Sharad Chopdekar demanded an inquiry into the matter, suggesting that the transfer might be linked to the removal of veteran players from certain teams. He called on authorities to investigate whether this factor influenced the decision.

Social worker Shailesh Govekar pointed out that no formal memo had been issued to PI Naik, nor was there any evidence of indiscipline on his part. “Why was the transfer executed without any clear justification?” he questioned.

Community member Vishal Naik alleged that departmental decisions appeared to be influenced by lower-ranking staff rather than senior officials acting independently.

The press briefing was attended by several community leaders, including MMC councillor Vinod Kinlekar, former MMC chairperson Sharad Chopdekar, secretary Arun Redkar, social workers Vishal Naik, Shailendra Govekar, and Laxman Naik, as well as businessman Umesh Salgaonkar.

The controversy has sparked widespread debate, with the community awaiting a response from authorities regarding the reasons behind PI Naik’s transfer.

  1. Very sad to hear about our PI Mr Raia Naik’s transfer from sport cell…shame on Goa’s home department for takeing such a step…I personally know how Sir Raia worked hard to get the police team on top of the table ( Football & Cricket)
I As a former Sports person condem this .move made by Home Department..

  2. It’s so sad that this happened in sports as sports should be absolutely above politics and hopefully Fairplay will be there 🙏
