Railway Contractors Defy Stop Work Order, Trespass on Villagers’ Land in Velsao
Velsao, Goa: Despite a Stop Work Order issued by the Village Panchayat of Velsao, Pale & Issorcim and the Deputy Collector-1, Margao, an attempt was made today to unlawfully trespass upon the Right of Way (ROW) of the villagers at Primeirovaddo, Velsao. The incident, allegedly involving South Western Railway (SWR) and its contractors RVNL & Surya Constructions, has sparked outrage among locals.
Residents are questioning whether the Railways consider themselves above the law, as they attempt to push through land that has been legally owned and used by villagers for over 200 years.
The matter took a shocking turn for the Coelho family, who arrived in Goa for a vacation only to find their heritage home blocked by dumped mud. The unauthorized dumping has left them stranded, adding to the distress of other affected villagers.
Local activists and residents are demanding strict action against the contractors for their blatant disregard of the official orders. They have called upon the authorities to intervene immediately and prevent further violations.
