Goa Medical College & Hospital (GMC) witnessed a significant milestone today with the launch of Project Parivartan, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the state. The keynote address at the event highlighted the project’s transformative vision to promote responsible antibiotic use and enhance infection prevention practices across Goa’s healthcare institutions.
Speaking at the function, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane emphasized the importance of the initiative, saying, “Antimicrobial resistance is a growing global challenge, and Goa is taking a proactive approach to address it. With Project Parivartan, we are setting a benchmark for responsible healthcare practices. This initiative will not only save lives but also ensure safer and more sustainable healthcare systems for future generations.”
Antimicrobial resistance poses a growing threat, and Project Parivartan marks a proactive step by the state to tackle this challenge head-on. The initiative emphasizes strengthening antibiotic stewardship, monitoring drug use, and fostering safer healthcare practices to curb the misuse of antibiotics.
This impactful leap has been made possible through the invaluable support of Pfizer and the Americares India Foundation, whose collaboration empowers Goa’s healthcare system to address the urgent issue of AMR effectively. Their contribution will enable healthcare professionals to implement robust measures that not only save lives but also ensure the long-term sustainability of antibiotic treatments.
“This milestone initiative signifies Goa’s commitment to advancing public health,” added another representative at the launch. “With Project Parivartan, we aim to set a benchmark for responsible healthcare practices across the nation.”
The project also aligns with the state’s broader vision of enhancing patient care, reducing healthcare-associated infections, and ensuring a healthier, safer community for all.
