PM Modi’s Fear of Caste Census and Losing Gujarat: The Misuse of ED in the National Herald Case
— Girish Chodankar Slams Vendetta Politics
Panjim: Girish Chodankar, Permanent Invitee to the Congress Working Committee, has launched a scathing attack on the Modi government, accusing it of weaponizing central agencies, particularly the Enforcement Directorate (ED), to harass Congress leaders. He said the revival of the National Herald case is not a pursuit of justice, but a politically motivated tactic driven by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fear—fear of Rahul Gandhi’s push for a caste census, fear of losing Gujarat, and fear of the Congress party’s resurgence.
Chodankar highlighted the legacy of the National Herald, a newspaper founded by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru during India’s freedom movement. When the publication encountered financial troubles, a not-for-profit company, Young Indian Pvt. Ltd., was formed to revive it. He clarified that both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi became part of the initiative without deriving any personal or financial benefit, as the company operates under strict non-profit norms.
“Should we be called criminals for preserving a legacy of our freedom struggle? If so, we proudly accept the charge. We are guilty of protecting history, defending democracy, and resisting Modi’s autocratic regime,” said Chodankar.
He noted that the National Herald case, repeatedly examined and found baseless over the last decade, has suddenly been revived—just as Congress gains ground in Gujarat. “This is no coincidence,” Chodankar asserted. “It is a calculated attempt to derail the Congress movement as we witness growing discontent against the BJP.”
The Congress leader accused PM Modi of orchestrating a campaign of vendetta politics. “The ED’s actions are not about justice—they’re about intimidation. But the people of Gujarat and India see through this charade. Congress will continue to fight—politically, legally, and morally.”
Concluding with a direct message to the Prime Minister, Chodankar said, “Deploy as many agencies as you like, but you cannot stop the wave of change sweeping across Gujarat. The misuse of ED will not stop us—it will only expose your desperation. The countdown to your electoral defeat has begun.”
