PM Modi Assures Help as Eight Workers Trapped in Telangana’s SLBC Tunnel Collapse

Nagarkurnool, Telangana: Eight workers, including two site engineers, remain trapped inside an under-construction tunnel of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) after a portion of its roof collapsed near Domalapenta village in Telangana’s Nagarkurnool district on Saturday morning. The rescue operation is ongoing as officials work tirelessly to reach those inside.

PM Modi Assures Support

Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally called Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to discuss the rescue efforts and assured full assistance from the central government. The PM has directed all necessary resources to aid in the operation.

CM Revanth Reddy Orders Immediate Action

Expressing shock over the incident, CM Revanth Reddy confirmed that several people were injured in the collapse, though he did not provide an exact number. The Chief Minister took swift action upon receiving reports of the disaster.

“After receiving information about the tunnel collapse and several injuries, the Chief Minister immediately alerted the officials. He ordered the District Collector, SP, Fire Department, Hydra, and Irrigation Department officials to immediately reach the spot and provide relief measures,” said the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in a statement.

Rescue Efforts Underway

Rescue teams, including the disaster response force, local administration, and fire services, are working against the clock to clear debris and reach the trapped workers. However, the unstable structure of the tunnel is making the operation challenging.

Authorities are using heavy machinery and specialized equipment to remove rubble and ensure the safe evacuation of those inside. Family members of the trapped workers are anxiously awaiting updates as the situation unfolds.

The SLBC tunnel is a critical irrigation project aimed at supplying water to drought-prone areas in Telangana. The accident has now raised questions about safety protocols and construction standards at the site.

Further updates are expected as rescue operations continue.
