Once Ignored, Now Alive: Baina Beach Witnesses a Massive Comeback as 25,000 People Celebrate the New Year
Mormugao: Baina Beach, which had remained neglected for several years, is now steadily regaining its prominence due to sustained efforts over the past three years, said Mormugao MLA Shri Sankalp Amonkar.
Addressing the media, MLA Amonkar stated, “For the last three years, I have been consistently working to revive the situation at Baina Beach, and today we are beginning to see positive and visible results.” He added that Baina Beach is no longer limited to New Year celebrations alone. In recent times, various social, cultural, and wellness-related events have been successfully organised at the beach.
Highlighting the activities held over the past year, MLA Amonkar informed that Baina Beach hosted a spiritual festival, the International Yoga Day celebrations, and several water sports activities, which attracted a large number of tourists.
The MLA announced that a comprehensive beautification plan for Baina Beach is on the cards. “As a citizen and as the elected representative of Mormugao, it is my responsibility to ensure the safety, development, and sustainable growth of Baina Beach,” he said, adding that the response and support from the public have been encouraging.
Referring to the recent New Year Eve celebrations, MLA Amonkar said that people from all age groups, not just locals, gathered at Baina Beach to welcome the New Year. As per official government reports, around 25,000 people were present at the venue. He also praised the organisers for the smooth and well-managed arrangements during the celebrations.
“Baina Beach is back to its glory and is completely safe for tourists and locals alike,” MLA Amonkar asserted, reiterating that continued public cooperation and government support will further strengthen Baina Beach as a major tourism destination in Goa.
