Nerul Comunidade Holds Managing Committee Election for 2025-2028
Nerul, Goa – February 23, 2025: The Nerul Comunidade held its managing committee election today at 10:30 AM at the Nerul Comunidade Hall. The election was conducted under the supervision of presiding officer Miss Shannan Almeida, Joint Mamlatdar of Bardez, as per the Code of Comunidade.
The newly elected managing committee for the term 2025-2028 is as follows:
- President: Laxshmi Gonsalves
- Attorney: Olencio Simoes
- Treasurer: Romana Cordo
- Substitutes: Thomas D’Souza, Ashok Braganza, Kevin Dos Santos
Following the election, newly elected Attorney Olencio Simoes expressed concern over the deteriorating state of Goa’s comunidades. He stated that many comunidades have lost their significance due to governmental neglect, despite being a historic landholding system dating back to the Kadamba era.
Simoes further appealed for urgent renovations of the Mapusa administrative office, which is reportedly on the verge of collapse. He also demanded amendments to the Code of Comunidade, advocating for enhanced powers for the managing committee to regulate land rates, prevent encroachments, and reclaim uncultivated land.
The election concluded smoothly under the prescribed norms, with the newly elected members set to take charge immediately.
