Nation in Mourning: A Call for Dignity and Respect

Panjim: With the official announcement of the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Goa Government and the Government of India have declared a seven-day mourning period. This solemn occasion calls for utmost dignity and respect in every aspect of public life.

However, Girish Chodankar, a prominent political figure, has raised concerns over the stark inconsistencies in the enforcement of regulations during this period. While wedding venues in Goa are being strictly monitored—some even facing premature shutdowns by Goa Police at 9:45 PM under the guise of a 10 PM noise prohibition—other areas seem to enjoy leniency. Notably, floating casinos in Panjim continue to play loud music past midnight, and high-profile events like the Sunburn Festival proceed without hindrance.

Chodankar accused the BJP-led government of selective enforcement, pointing out the troubling disparity. “This double standard reflects blatant corruption and a disregard for fairness in law enforcement. It undermines the solemnity of the mourning period,” he said.

He called on authorities to ensure uniformity in their actions and to uphold the values of respect and decency during this time of national grief. “Let us remember Dr. Manmohan Singh ji with the reverence he deserves, free from the hypocrisy that stains our current political framework,” Chodankar urged.

The nation mourns the loss of a great leader, and this period demands reflection not just on his legacy but also on our commitment to justice and equality.
