Mormugao Port Authority Celebrates 140 Glorious Years on Annual Foundation Day
Mormugao, Goa | April 15, 2025 — Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) celebrated its Annual Foundation Day with great pride and joy, marking an extraordinary milestone of 140 years of service, growth, and maritime legacy. Established in 1885 and located on the strategic west coast of India, Mormugao Port is one of the oldest and most significant ports in the country, proudly holding the status of the 7th Major Port of India.
The Foundation Day commemorated not only MPA’s historical significance but also its journey toward being a customer-centric organisation, known for delivering value-driven services to clients and stakeholders across the maritime spectrum.
The event was graced by Dr. N. Vinodkumar, IPoS, Chairperson, MPA, who re-issued the historic book “History of Mormugao”, a treasured compilation originally issued by Shri Amaro Pereira, Retd. Sr. Asst. Secretary. The re-launch was conducted in the presence of Shri Vinayaka Rao, Deputy Chairperson, MPA, along with Heads of Departments and senior officials, reaffirming the commitment to preserving the Port’s rich heritage.
In his address, Dr. Vinodkumar paid tribute to the unwavering dedication of the Port’s employees and stakeholders, stating, “This celebration is a reflection of our collective efforts, achievements, and aspirations. We thank every team member, partner, and supporter who has contributed to MPA’s journey.”
MPA has played a pivotal role in India’s maritime development under the guidance of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and continues to evolve with technology, sustainability, and service excellence at its core.
The celebration also highlighted the port’s collaborations with national institutions such as the Indian Ports Association, Press Information Bureau (PIB), and maritime publications including Port Wings and Maritime Weekly, showcasing MPA’s vision for the future.
