MHA Issues Nationwide Directive to Bolster Civil Defence Amid Rising Indo-Pak Tensions

New Delhi, May 5, 2025 — In response to the recent escalation in hostilities between India and Pakistan following the deadly Pahalgam attack, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued a nationwide directive aimed at strengthening India’s civil defence infrastructure.

The MHA’s directive outlines a comprehensive set of initiatives to enhance the country’s preparedness for potential hostile actions:

The directive comes amid sharply deteriorating relations between India and Pakistan. In a strong retaliatory move, India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, expelled Pakistani diplomats, and sealed key border crossings.

Pakistan, denying any role in the Pahalgam attack, has responded by suspending the Simla Agreement, closing its airspace to Indian aircraft, and halting all bilateral trade with India.

Analysts warn that the situation remains volatile, and both nations appear to be entering a dangerous phase of diplomatic and military brinkmanship.

As tensions mount, the Indian government is urging the public to remain calm but vigilant. “We must be prepared for all contingencies. This is a time for national unity and civil readiness,” said a senior MHA official.
