by Konkan Railway Launches Ro-Ro Car Transportation Service Ahead of Ganapati Festival
Mumbai 24/08/2025: In a major passenger-friendly initiative, Konkan Railway has launched its Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) car transportation service between Kolad (Maharashtra) and Verna (Goa), just ahead of the Ganapati festival.
The service commenced on 23rd August 2025, with the first train carrying nineteen passengers along with their vehicles. Passengers were accommodated in a dedicated AC coach and Second Seating coach, ensuring comfort while their vehicles were safely transported onboard. The inaugural train departed from Kolad at 15:40 hrs.
This unique travel facility allows passengers to travel together with their vehicles on the same train, offering both convenience and safety. Konkan Railway highlighted that the service is part of its continued commitment to passenger-friendly initiatives, in line with its motto “We Care, We Serve.”
Earlier, Konkan Railway had successfully operated a similar Ro-Ro service for trucks, which was widely accepted by transporters on this route. Building on that success, the railway now believes this car transportation service could be a game-changer, especially as tourist inflow into Goa increases during the festive season.
For all notified Ro-Ro car transportation trips up to 11th September 2025, registrations will be accepted up to three days prior to the date of journey till 17:00 hrs (excluding the date of journey).
