India Revokes Most Visas for Pakistani Nationals Amidst Rising Diplomatic Tensions
Effective April 27, 2025 | Only Medical, Diplomatic & Long-Term Visas Remain Valid
New Delhi, April 26, 2025: In a major diplomatic development, the Government of India has issued a sweeping order revoking the majority of visas granted to Pakistani nationals. The order, issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) under reference number No. 25022/28/2025-F.I, mandates immediate suspension of visa services to Pakistani citizens, with a few critical exceptions.
According to the order signed by Under Secretary Pratap Singh Rawat, all existing valid visas issued to Pakistani nationals stand revoked with effect from April 27, 2025, except for:
- Medical Visas (valid until April 29, 2025)
- Long Term Visas (LTVs)
- Diplomatic & Official Visas
The Government of India has decided to suspend visa services to Pakistani nationals with immediate effect. No new visas will be issued in any category except for Diplomatic & Official Visas and LTVs. The Ministry clarified that the decision is taken under powers conferred by Section 3(1) of the Foreigners Act, 1946, and is in continuation of the prior order concerning the SAARC Visa revocation dated April 24, 2025.
This latest move marks a notable shift in Indo-Pak relations and visa policy, significantly curtailing travel opportunities for Pakistani citizens. The Ministry of External Affairs and Bureau of Immigration have been instructed to widely publicize the order and ensure its strict compliance.
A detailed table included in the annexure of the order outlines the status of all visa types for Pakistani nationals:
