India Firmly Rejects China’s Baseless Naming of Arunachal Pradesh Locations: MEA
New Delhi, May 14 – India has strongly denounced China’s repeated and unfounded attempts to rename locations within the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. In a firm statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Government of India reiterated that such actions by China are futile and will not change the ground realities.
“We have noticed that China has persisted with its vain and preposterous attempts to name places in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. Consistent with our principled position, we reject such attempts categorically,” the MEA stated.
“Creative naming will not alter the undeniable reality that Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India,” the ministry emphasized.
On May 11, the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) released the fifth list of so-called “standardized names,” geolocating locations within Arunachal Pradesh. This move follows a series of similar actions by Beijing since 2017, with China now having renamed a total of 89 locations in the Indian state.
India has consistently rejected these attempts, asserting that they carry no legitimacy or international acceptance. The latest naming effort has been widely viewed as part of China’s expansionist and revisionist tactics, which India continues to oppose resolutely.
“Such measures do not and cannot alter the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India. Arunachal Pradesh will always remain an inalienable part of India,” the MEA reaffirmed.
