Sankhali, September 17, 2025 – Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant today unveiled the 1,00,000th bus manufactured by Automobile Corporation of Goa Ltd. (ACGL) at Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhali. The landmark ceremony was graced by MLA Dr. Deviya Rane, industrialist Shri Shrinivas Dempo, ACGL Board Members, and several dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sawant lauded ACGL’s remarkable achievement and urged the company to further expand local employment opportunities, thereby strengthening Goa’s industrial ecosystem. He also appreciated ACGL’s commitment towards achieving Net Zero Carbon efficiency, aligning with the Government’s vision of Make in India and Make for the Globe.
The Chief Minister congratulated Team ACGL for crossing the milestone of 1,00,000 buses and expressed confidence in the company’s continued role in transforming Goa’s transport sector and contributing to industrial progress.
Right from its inception, ACGL, with its emphasis on quality, safety, productivity, and reliability in line with the Tata ethos, has been endearing itself to customers. The company manufactures sheet metal components and assemblies for the automotive industry at Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, Jejuri (Pune, Maharashtra) and Belur Industrial Estate (Dharwad, Karnataka), while its bus coaches are manufactured at factories in Honda and Bhuimpal villages, Goa.
In 1987, ACGL entered into a Technical Collaboration Agreement with Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., Japan—makers of Subaru cars—for various models of chassis-mounted bus bodies, establishing a full-fledged Bus Body Building Division. This collaboration extended further in 1995 with the production of Monocoque buses, marking another milestone in ACGL’s technological journey.
Equipped with excellent production facilities, highly skilled manpower, and a continuous focus on training for engineers, technicians, and staff, ACGL has consistently delivered world-class products and services. The company practices integrated management systems, covering quality, environment, health, and safety, reinforcing its commitment to business excellence.
ACGL is a professionally managed company, and its shares are listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), underscoring its credibility and investor confidence.
Founded in 1980 as the first major engineering unit in Goa, ACGL was jointly promoted by Tata Motors Ltd. (formerly Tata Engineering & Locomotive Co. Ltd.), India’s largest automobile manufacturer, and EDC Ltd. (formerly Economic Development Corporation of Goa, Daman & Diu Ltd.). Today, ACGL stands as a proud symbol of Goa’s industrial strength and contribution to the nation’s automobile sector.
