High-Level Security Measures Taken Across States After Pahalgam Terror Attack
New Delhi, April 23 – In response to the heinous terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) held an emergency meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi. Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the meeting was attended by Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and other top security officials.
The CCS reviewed the current security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir and evaluated the response strategy. Sources confirmed that a comprehensive review of counter-terror operations and intelligence coordination was undertaken.
Punjab Seals Border, Red Alert Issued
Following the attack, the Punjab government has sealed its international border with Pakistan and issued a red alert across the state. Security has been significantly heightened, especially at tourist locations. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, after chairing a high-level meeting with police and civil administration in Chandigarh, stated that the state is maintaining high vigilance.
“Punjab shares its border with both Pakistan and Jammu & Kashmir, so an eagle eye is being kept on all anti-national movements,” Mann said. He emphasized the seamless coordination between the Army, BSF, and Punjab Police to neutralize any threat. Condemning the attack, the Chief Minister called it “barbaric and inhuman.”

Special Train and Flights for Evacuation
To assist stranded pilgrims and tourists, the Indian Railways will operate a special one-way train from Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to New Delhi tonight, departing at 9:20 PM. The helpline numbers for railway stations are:

Additionally, four special flights from Srinagar to Delhi and Mumbai have been arranged today. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, in coordination with Home Minister Amit Shah, is closely monitoring the evacuation and safety efforts. Additional flights are on standby as per evacuation needs.
Highway Closed
The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH44) remains closed due to ongoing restoration work, further complicating ground transportation in the region.
As the nation comes to terms with the tragic events in Pahalgam, security agencies across India are on high alert to prevent any further threats and ensure the safe return of all stranded tourists.
