Goa’s Interests First: Strong Opposition to New Railway Stations at Konkan Railway Users Consultative Committee Meeting
In a crucial meeting of the 21st Konkan Railway Users Consultative Committee held today at Nanu Beach Resort, Goa’s representatives voiced strong opposition to the proposed railway stations at Sarzora, Neura, and Mayem. Concerns were raised over the lack of transparency behind these new stations, with a stern warning that if clarity is not provided, Goans will take to the streets in protest.
The opposition to these stations was strongly supported by Committee Chairman and senior parliamentarian from Kerala, Shri NK Premchandran. Participants stressed the importance of openness in decision-making, ensuring that the interest of Goa and its people comes first.
Appreciation for Passenger Amenities & Further Demands
While raising objections to the new stations, the representatives also appreciated Konkan Railway for its efforts to enhance passenger facilities at Margao and other existing stations. Specific improvement measures were suggested for Tivim Railway Station, including:
- Better amenities for passengers
- More job opportunities and shop allotments for land losers
- Extension of platform sheds to facilitate comfortable boarding and de-boarding, especially during monsoons

The meeting saw the presence of MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade, MP Kerala N K Premchandran, MP Karnataka Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, MP South Goa Capt. Viriato Fernandes, MLA from Karnataka, along with representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Goa and Maharashtra. CMD of Konkan Railway Corporation, Santosh Kumar Jha, and KRCL officials were also present.
The discussions emphasized the need for people-centric railway development in Goa, with a commitment to ensuring that any changes benefit the state’s residents first.
