Goa University Hosts Celebration of 75th Anniversary of the Constitution of India

Goa University marked the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution with an inspiring program that highlighted the visionary framework laid down by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. The event paid tribute to the architect of the Constitution, whose work established the foundation for a liberal, democratic, and just India.

The Chief Guest for the occasion was Leader of Opposition, Shri Yuri Alemao, who, while speaking at the function, emphasized the timeless relevance of the Constitution in guiding India’s progress. He lauded Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s unparalleled contribution in drafting a Constitution that enshrines equality, justice, and freedom for every citizen. Shri Alemao urged everyone to integrate the values of the Constitution into their daily lives, fostering a society rooted in fraternity and mutual respect.

The program celebrated the Constitution as more than a legal document—it is a guiding light that ensures the rights of every citizen, including equality and freedom of speech. Over the years, these principles have steered India towards justice, liberty, and democracy, fostering a sense of hope and inclusion among all its citizens.

Speakers at the event emphasized the Constitution’s role in shaping the relationship between the government and the people, defining the balance of power between the Centre and the States, and promoting fraternity and brotherhood. They reiterated the importance of integrating constitutional values into everyday life to create a nation that truly embodies equity, liberty, and justice as envisioned in the Preamble.

While the Constitution guarantees equality and secularism, it also urges citizens to uphold the social fabric, protect communal harmony, and cherish India’s diverse cultural heritage. The attendees reflected on the challenges faced by the nation today, stressing that these are not failures of the Constitution but rather lapses in following its guiding principles.

The diversity of religion, language, caste, and culture in India was acknowledged as a unique strength. However, the gathering called for introspection, asking whether the nation is governing in alignment with constitutional ethics and embracing its rich diversity.

The event concluded with a resounding call to action: to align governance with constitutional values, foster inclusive growth, and commit to the principles of equality, secularism, and social justice. Participants pledged to embrace tolerance, compassion, and brotherhood as the true path to national service.

As the program ended, the hall resonated with the fervent call of “Jai Hind,” symbolizing the collective aspiration for a united and victorious India.
