Goa Takes Bold Strides Towards Renewable Energy Future: Key Decisions Finalized in High-Level Review Meeting

Panaji, April 29: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant today chaired a key meeting to review major renewable energy initiatives in Goa, reinforcing the state’s strong commitment to sustainable development. The high-level meeting witnessed the participation of Secretaries and senior officials from the Finance, Home, Goa Pollution Control Board (GPCB), and General Administration Department (GAD).

Key Highlights and Decisions:

1. Formation of GEDA as a Company
The Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA), currently functioning as a society, will be transitioned into a company. This move aims to enhance operational efficiency, transparency, and flexibility in managing renewable energy projects.

2. Recruitment Drive for GEDA
Approval was granted for the recruitment of a Managing Director (MD) and essential staff to bolster GEDA’s capacity and improve project implementation across the state.

3. Expanding Renewable Energy Projects
A state-wide strategy was discussed to scale up solar, biogas, and solar water heating systems, particularly targeting rural and semi-urban areas.

4. PM Suryaghar Yojana Implementation
The Chief Minister emphasized ensuring consumer safety and reliability under the PM Suryaghar Rooftop Solar Scheme, with a strong focus on establishing a dependable Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) framework.

5. EV Charging Infrastructure
A model was approved where 50% of the cost will be borne by the government and 50% by developers to rapidly deploy electric vehicle (EV) charging stations throughout Goa.

6. Solar Street Light Expansion
Approval was given for expanding solar-powered street lights in both urban and rural areas to promote clean energy and improve public safety.

7. Enhanced Subsidies for Green Energy
Increased subsidies will be provided for biogas units, solar water heaters, and solar installations in government buildings, contributing to energy efficiency and environmental conservation.

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant reaffirmed the government’s dedication to transforming Goa into a model state for renewable energy, driven by innovation, sustainability, and people-first policies.
