Goa Legislative Assembly Summoned; Speaker’s Election Scheduled on 25th September
Porvorim, September 6, 2025:
The Hon’ble Governor of Goa, through Order No. 10/2/2022-LA/1843 dated 6th September 2025, has summoned the Eleventh Session of the Eighth Legislative Assembly of Goa to convene on Thursday, 25th September 2025 at 11:30 A.M. at the Assembly Hall in Porvorim.
The session gains added significance as it will witness the Election of the Speaker following the resignation of Dr. Ramesh Tawadkar, who stepped down from the post on 21st August 2025 (F.N.).
According to the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Goa Legislative Assembly, members are invited to file nominations for the Speaker’s election. Notices of motion for nomination must be submitted to the Legislature Secretariat by 12:00 noon on Wednesday, 24th September 2025.
On the day of the election, the presiding member—Deputy Speaker or the member appointed by the Governor—will read out the names of the duly nominated candidates along with their proposers and seconders.
- If only one nomination stands after any withdrawals, that member will be declared elected unopposed.
- If multiple nominations remain, the House will proceed to vote, with motions put one by one in the order moved. The winning candidate will then be declared the Speaker of the House.
The Secretariat, under Namrata A. Ulman, Secretary of the Goa Legislative Assembly, has officially circulated the notice to all members of the Eighth Legislative Assembly.
This election is expected to be a crucial political event, shaping the leadership and proceedings of the Assembly as it heads into the Eleventh Session.
