Goa Gears Up for Green Revolution: Chief Minister Chaired a High-Level Review Meeting on PM Surya Ghar Yojana Held at Mantralaya

Porvorim, Goa – June 3, 2025: In a significant push towards achieving sustainable and affordable energy for all, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant today chaired a high-level meeting at Mantralaya to assess the progress of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PM-SGMBY) in Goa. The meeting focused on expediting implementation and aligning state efforts with the national clean energy agenda.

Under PM-SGMBY, Goa has set ambitious targets to install 21,200 rooftop solar systems by 2027, aiming to generate 65 MW of clean and green solar energy. The program particularly targets poor and middle-class families, ensuring that the benefits of solar power reach the grassroots level.

The state’s performance under the scheme is steadily advancing. So far:

  • Over 4,700+ rooftop solar feasibility approvals have been granted.
  • 7.34 MW of solar power has been successfully installed and connected to the grid.
  • Subsidies worth ₹4.28 crores have been released to beneficiaries, further encouraging adoption.

Key Action Points Discussed:

🔹 Fast-tracking contractor onboarding: Special emphasis was laid on enrolling contractors who commit to a 25-year maintenance plan, ensuring long-term support for solar system users.

🔹 Expanding rooftop solar reach: Plans were deliberated to promote widespread adoption in new and existing buildings, including hotels, government offices, and residential complexes, making solar a default energy choice.

🔹 Phasing out legacy schemes: The Goa Vinamulya Vidyut Yojana (GVVYJ) will be integrated under the PM-SGMBY umbrella. The transition will streamline subsidies and reinforce mandatory rooftop solar installations in key sectors.

Officials reiterated that this transformative initiative will not only empower citizens with free and sustainable electricity but also drive the state towards its Net Zero carbon goals, in line with the national commitment to climate action.
