Goa Forward Party Chief Vijay Sardesai Slams Government Over 3-Day Assembly Session

Panaji: Goa Forward Party (GFP) Chief and Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai has strongly criticized the BJP-led Goa government for convening a three-day Legislative Assembly session, calling it a mere formality rather than a meaningful democratic exercise.

Taking to social media, Sardesai accused the government of avoiding accountability and prioritizing corruption over governance. He posted:

“3-DAY ASSEMBLY SESSION A BREAK FROM BJP’s YEAR-LONG, BUSY SCHEDULE OF LOOT, DESPOTISM AND SCAMS. For Dr. Pramod Sawant and his cabinet, the Assembly sessions have become a ritual that has to be performed as shabbily and quickly as possible to get back to what they are really good at, and proud of: scheming and scamming. Spending time to answer to the people, or abiding by democratic processes is to BJP Goa a gross waste of time, and a necessary evil.”

He further alleged that the ruling party’s “criminal governance” has destroyed the soul of Goa and that even a year-long Assembly session would not be enough to expose the damage caused by the government. Sardesai urged citizens to discuss these issues at the grassroots level and hold the ruling party accountable.

This criticism comes in light of the government’s decision to hold a brief three-day session, following a two-day session in February. Opposition leaders have repeatedly raised concerns over the reduced duration of Assembly sessions, arguing that it limits discussions on crucial issues affecting the state.

Sardesai’s remarks have sparked fresh political debate in Goa, with opposition parties questioning the BJP’s commitment to democratic processes. The government, however, has defended the short sessions, citing administrative efficiency and the need to focus on governance outside the Assembly.

With growing discontent among opposition parties and civil society, the demand for longer and more productive Assembly sessions is likely to intensify in the coming days.
