Goa – A Hub of Film Culture: Chief Minister Inaugurates Marathi Film Festival in Presence of Eminent Personalities

Panaji 09 August 2025: Goa is not only famous for its beaches but is also emerging as a hub for film culture at the national and international level, said Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant. Speaking at the grand inauguration of the 14th Marathi Film Festival organised by Vinson Graphics, Dr. Sawant highlighted that international and state-level film festivals, including IFFI, Goa State Film Festival, and the Marathi Film Festival, have played a significant role in enhancing Goa’s cultural identity.

The Chief Minister said the overwhelming response to these festivals reflects the cultural awareness and love for art among Goans. The event was graced by veteran actress Rohini Hattangadi, Dr. Mohan Agashe, Subodh Bhave, Siddharth Jadhav, Mrinal Kulkarni, Gajendra Ahire, and several other prominent personalities from the Marathi film industry.

Dr. Sawant added that film festivals contribute to the growth of tourism in Goa, creating direct and indirect employment for hundreds of locals. IFFI has placed Goa on the global film map, the State Film Festival inspires local filmmakers, and the Marathi Film Festival serves as a platform connecting Goan Marathi artists with audiences.

The government, he assured, is working to provide world-class facilities for filmmaking in Goa — including studios, sound stages, editing suites, and VFX labs. Plans are underway to introduce attractive incentive schemes, resolve delays in permissions, and provide financial support. A Film City, shooting location guide, and single-window clearance system are also on the agenda.

Organisers Sanjay Shetye and Shripad Shetye of Vinson Graphics welcomed the guests.

Veteran actor Dr. Mohan Agashe said, “Coming to Goa is always a pleasure. During film festivals, meaningful exchanges take place, and artists — both veterans and newcomers — get to meet, which is a valuable experience.”

Renowned filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar said, “The Goa Marathi Film Festival is an important event that brings together dignitaries from the film industry. It is a platform for film screenings, discussions, and interactions.”

Actor Ajinkya Deo, known for his impactful performances in Marathi cinema, is also in Goa to attend the festival.
