Four Killed in Mumbra Local Train Accident; CM Fadnavis Announces Safety and Comfort Measures for Mumbaikars

Mumbra 11 June: In a tragic incident on Monday, June 9, 2025, four passengers lost their lives in a horrific local train accident near Mumbra Railway Station. The accident occurred during peak hours when two overcrowded local trains were passing each other. Passengers standing at the doors of both trains came into fatal contact, resulting in severe injuries and the immediate death of four individuals.

According to eyewitnesses, the tragedy unfolded when the trains crossed paths at high speed. The victims, reportedly clinging to the footboards due to extreme crowding inside the compartments, were flung against each other. Emergency teams rushed to the scene, and the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals.

This incident has once again highlighted the persistent problem of overcrowding and lack of safety infrastructure in Mumbai’s suburban railway network.

In response to this tragedy, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the media and made a reassuring announcement for the citizens of Mumbai.

“The government has a master plan to provide AC trains and not increase the fares. The local train crowd has increased due to a lack of metro web connectivity. The work of installing doors for trains is underway. The government will take measures to ensure passenger safety and comfort. We are aware that ventilation must be arranged in local trains, and the government is ready with the necessary design,” said CM Fadnavis.

He acknowledged the dangers posed by overcrowded trains and emphasized that the state is committed to long-term solutions including the integration of metro networks, installation of automated doors, better air ventilation, and increased AC train services β€” all without burdening commuters with fare hikes.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the Mumbra train incident and are reviewing protocols to prevent such occurrences in the future. Meanwhile, the families of the deceased will be provided ex-gratia assistance, as confirmed by railway officials.

The Chief Minister also expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured that immediate steps would be taken to ensure no such incident is repeated.
