Bhopal, May 15 – A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against Madhya Pradesh BJP leader and Tribal Affairs Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah, just hours after the Madhya Pradesh High Court made sharp observations about his controversial remarks, describing them as “cancerous and dangerous.” The court directed authorities to initiate legal proceedings.

FIR Against MP BJP Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah: A First Information Report (FIR) was registered Wednesday night against Shah for his statement alluding to Colonel Sofiya Qureshi as a “sister of terrorists.” The remark sparked massive backlash from opposition parties and civil society.

Speaking at an event in Mahu on Tuesday, Shah stated that those who widowed India’s daughters were taught a lesson by Prime Minister Narendra Modi using their own sister “(unki samaaj ki behen ke zariye).” He repeated the statement three times. The Congress claimed this was a veiled reference to Colonel Qureshi, who had conducted press briefings during Operation Sindoor.

Taking suo motu cognizance, a Division Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court comprising Justice Atul Sreedharan and Justice Anuradha Shukla observed:
“Prima facie, the statement of the minister that Colonel Qureshi is the sister of the terrorists who carried out the Pahalgam attack encourages feelings of separatist activities which thereby endangers the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India.”

The court emphasized the gravity of such remarks coming from a government minister, warning that such rhetoric could stoke separatist sentiments and harm national cohesion.

With mounting pressure from the opposition and growing criticism across social and political circles, the incident has triggered a significant political storm in Madhya Pradesh.
