Election Commission Issues Notice to AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal Over Yamuna Poisoning Allegations

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a notice to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor and Delhi former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with complaints filed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress. The complaints were raised over Mr. Kejriwal’s recent allegations during an interview, where he claimed that the Yamuna river was being “poisoned deliberately.”

The BJP and Congress have strongly opposed these remarks, accusing Mr. Kejriwal of making unsubstantiated claims that could mislead the public and influence voters. Following the complaints, the ECI has directed Mr. Kejriwal to respond to the allegations by 8 PM tomorrow, furnishing evidentiary support for his statements.

In its notice, the Election Commission emphasized the need to maintain integrity and fairness in political discourse, especially during sensitive times such as elections. The Commission has warned that failure to provide a satisfactory response may invite further action under the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct and other relevant laws.

The AAP has yet to release an official statement regarding the notice. This development has sparked a fresh round of political debate, with BJP and Congress leaders urging the Election Commission to take stringent action.

Meanwhile, the issue of pollution in the Yamuna river remains a point of concern, with environmentalists and activists calling for urgent action to address the deteriorating water quality.

This notice adds to the ongoing political heat as parties gear up for upcoming elections, with accusations and counter-accusations taking center stage.
