Dream11 Shuts Down Real-Money Gaming After Parliament Passes Online Gaming Bill
India’s largest real-money gaming platform, Dream11, has announced the shutdown of its real-money gaming operations following the passage of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025 in Parliament.
In an official note, the company confirmed that all paid contests on Dream11 have been discontinued as of this morning, with the platform pivoting entirely to a free-to-play online social gaming model.
Dream11, which began 18 years ago as a sports tech company, grew to become the world’s largest fantasy sports platform, outpacing even the U.S. fantasy sports industry. “With this passion, belief, and the spirit of Made in India, for India, by Indians, we became the largest fantasy sports platform in the world,” the company statement read.
While expressing disappointment over the move, Dream11 emphasized its commitment to compliance. “We have always been and will always be a law-abiding company. While we believe that progressive regulations would have been the right way forward, we will respect the law and will fully comply with The Promotion & Regulation of Online Gaming Law, 2025,” the note added.
Despite this shutdown, Dream11’s parent entity, Dream Sports, will continue to focus on its other businesses — FanCode, DreamSetGo, and Dream Game Studios — along with its philanthropic arm, the Dream Sports Foundation.
Dream11 now joins a growing list of platforms, including MPL, Zupee, Probo, My11Circle, and GamesKraft, that have wound up their real-money gaming businesses in India.
The company signed off optimistically: “We are fortunate to have a portfolio of amazing sports tech businesses… These will continue to power our vision to ‘Make Sports Better’ and support our Hon’ble Prime Minister’s ambition of making India a global sporting superpower. Thank you for all your love and trust. See you in our second innings.”
