DMK, UDF MPs Stage Protest Outside Parliament Over Education Policy and ASHA Workers’ Wages
New Delhi: The Parliament premises witnessed protests today as MPs from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) raised their respective demands, targeting the Centre over key policy issues.
DMK MP Kanimozhi led a demonstration against the National Education Policy (NEP) and the imposition of a three-language formula. Addressing reporters outside Parliament, she demanded that the Centre release funds to Tamil Nadu for education. She also sought an apology from Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over his alleged objectionable remarks in the Lok Sabha yesterday.
Meanwhile, MPs from Kerala’s UDF staged a protest in support of ASHA workers, demanding an increase in their honorarium. Congress MP K C Venugopal highlighted the workers’ contributions to the healthcare sector, stating, “ASHA workers are working 24X7 and are the backbone of the health system. The government must ensure fair wages for them.”
The protests come amid heightened tensions in Parliament over multiple issues, with opposition parties continuously questioning the Centre’s policies.
