Pernem 07August: A shocking incident of violence and vandalism occurred at the Pernem Block Development Office (BDO) where a father-son duo, originally from Delhi and currently residing in Morjim, physically assaulted Morjim Panchayat Secretary Sachin Dhawaskar and ransacked the government office, causing significant damage to public property.
According to preliminary information, the accused had recently purchased property in the jurisdiction of Morjim Panchayat. In connection with this, they had submitted an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act to the panchayat. A hearing regarding the same was scheduled today at the Pernem BDO office.
Both the Panchayat Secretary and the accused duo were present during the hearing. However, what began as a discussion quickly escalated into a heated argument. In a sudden outburst, the father and son allegedly launched a violent attack on Secretary Dhawaskar, severely beating him. They also vandalized office property, causing widespread damage to government assets.
Secretary Dhawaskar sustained serious injuries in the attack and was rushed immediately to a hospital for urgent medical attention. Meanwhile, the assailants fled the scene. Pernem police acted swiftly, tracked down the duo, and took them into custody after conducting a medical examination.
At the time of the incident, the Block Development Officer was not present in the office, but other staff members promptly alerted the police.
Reacting strongly to the incident, local MLA Jeet Arolkar condemned the attack, stating, “Such acts of violence will not be tolerated in Goa. Strict and immediate action must be taken against the culprits.”
The police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
