CRPF Dismisses Jawan for Concealing Marriage with Pakistani Woman, Cites National Security Concerns
NEW DELHI — The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has dismissed jawan Munir Ahmed from service for concealing his marriage to a Pakistani national, citing his actions as a threat to national security, official sources said on Saturday.
Ahmed, who was serving with the 41st battalion of the CRPF — India’s lead internal security force — was dismissed under provisions that allow removal without a formal inquiry. According to CRPF spokesperson Deputy Inspector General (DIG) M. Dhinakaran, the jawan failed to disclose his marriage and the continued illegal stay of his wife in India.
“Munir Ahmed has been dismissed from service with immediate effect for concealing his marriage to a Pakistani national and knowingly harbouring her beyond the validity of her visa,” DIG Dhinakaran stated. “His actions were found to be in violation of service conduct and detrimental to national security.”
The incident came to light amid heightened Indo-Pak diplomatic tensions following the Pahalgam terrorist attack, which claimed 26 lives. In response, the Indian government ordered all Pakistani nationals to leave the country, leading to the exposure of Ahmed’s relationship.
Ahmed had sought official permission to marry Menal Khan, a Pakistani citizen, but went ahead with a marriage over video call on May 24, 2024, before approval was granted. A subsequent CRPF investigation revealed that he neither reported the marriage nor informed authorities about Khan’s overstay after her tourist visa expired.
Menal Khan entered India on February 25, 2025, and remained after her visa was revoked, triggering deportation proceedings. However, on May 1, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court stayed her deportation after she applied for a long-term visa.
The CRPF has reiterated the importance of strict adherence to protocol, especially in matters involving foreign nationals, due to potential security implications.
