Congress Warns BJP: Don’t Use Communal Tactics to Distract from Governance FailuresCalls for Ban on T. Raja Singh

Panjim, December 6, 2024: The Indian National Congress in Goa has issued a strong statement condemning the BJP government’s decision to invite T. Raja Singh, a controversial figure known for his history of hate speech and divisive rhetoric, to the state. The Congress alleges that this move is a calculated attempt to divert attention from the BJP’s ongoing governance failures, including the cash-for-jobs scam and unregulated land conversions.

Senior Congress leader Girish Chodankar slammed the BJP’s decision, labeling it as a dangerous tactic to incite communal tension in the lead-up to the 2027 Assembly elections.

“Goa has always been a beacon of communal harmony and peaceful coexistence. Inviting someone like T. Raja Singh, who has been accused of spreading hate speech and promoting violence, is a blatant threat to this legacy. This is not just irresponsible; it’s unacceptable,” said Chodankar.

He highlighted Raja Singh’s controversial record, including his suspension from the BJP in 2022 over allegations of hate speech and the revocation of that suspension in 2023. Chodankar further called for Raja Singh to be permanently banned from Goa, citing the precedent set with Pramod Muthalik, whose entry was prohibited by law and upheld by the High Court.

The Congress has demanded immediate action from Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant to revoke the invitation extended to Raja Singh. They warned that his visit, especially during Goa’s peak tourism season, could harm the state’s reputation and trigger unnecessary communal tensions.

“Goa’s communal harmony and its thriving tourism industry are at stake. The BJP must choose whether it stands for peace or divisive politics. Goans will not tolerate such tactics,” Chodankar emphasized.

The Congress Party also reiterated its commitment to preserving the secular ethos of Goa and called on all peace-loving citizens to resist attempts to polarize the state. “We urge Goans to unite against such divisive politics and protect the integrity of our society,” Chodankar added.
