CM Dr. Pramod Sawant Inaugurates Goa’s First Automated Community Irrigation System at V.P. Surla

Surla, Goa, March 8: In a landmark step towards agricultural modernization, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant today inaugurated the Automated Irrigation System at V.P. Surla, marking the state’s first community irrigation project of its kind.

This pioneering initiative is set to revive and strengthen agricultural activities in the region, bringing approximately 45 hectares of land under irrigation while ensuring optimal water utilization through modern scientific techniques.

To facilitate smooth operation and management of the system, local farmers have formed the Water User Association under the name Dergun Farmer Club, Surla, Goa. Additionally, two more farmer clubs are being established in Kadchal and Surla to expand the benefits of this advanced irrigation system.

Direct Benefits to Farmers

The automated system is expected to yield significant financial and productivity benefits, including:
50% reduction in labor costs
Enhanced productivity through efficient water distribution
Optimized water usage for sustainable agriculture
Lower input costs, leading to increased profitability for farmers

Speaking at the event, CM Dr. Pramod Sawant congratulated the farmers and stakeholders, stating:
“This initiative is a significant step forward in our mission for a Swayampurna, Viksit Goa. I extend my best wishes to the farmers for their continued contribution to Goa’s agricultural progress.”

This project marks a milestone in the state’s efforts to empower farmers with modern technology, paving the way for a self-reliant and prosperous agricultural sector in Goa.
