Chodankar Questions Inaction Against Land Conversion Mastermind, Vishwajit Rane
Panjim: In a scathing attack following the suspension of Chief Town Planner Rajesh Naik over illegalities in the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department, former Goa Congress president Girish Chodankar has questioned the silence and inaction against TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane, who he alleged is the mastermind behind large-scale illegal land conversions in the state.
Chodankar criticized the selective accountability being displayed by the government. “Why is only the executor being punished while the individual who pressured officials to act unlawfully remains untouched?” he questioned, referring to Minister Rane. He asserted that during Rane’s tenure, several controversial land conversions worth thousands of crores were pushed through, causing irreversible environmental damage across Goa.
He added that Naik’s suspension is not just an isolated disciplinary move, but rather an eye-opener into the deeper corruption operating under Rane’s influence. “The suspension has exposed the rot in the system and the role played by the minister himself. The real culprits cannot be allowed to go scot-free,” said Chodankar.
Chodankar further demanded that Rane and all ministers who pressured officials like Naik into committing illegalities must accept moral responsibility and resign. “If they fail to resign voluntarily, then the BJP central leadership must intervene and demand Vishwajit Rane’s resignation in the interest of justice and transparency,” he urged.
He concluded by saying that accountability should not stop at lower officials, but must extend to those at the top who orchestrated the illegal land deals.
