Panaji, June 18: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, along with Revenue and Labour Minister Shri Atanasio Monserrate, convened a high-level meeting today with major industry stakeholders to address Goa’s evolving manpower and skilling requirements. The meeting saw the participation of the Chief Secretary, Labour Commissioner, EPFO officials, and representatives from key sectors including Pharma, Shipping, Tourism, Automobile, and Services, as well as various industrial associations.
The discussions centered around creating a collaborative roadmap to bridge the gap between industry demands and workforce capabilities in the state.
Key Highlights of the Meeting:
- Proposal to revise minimum wages for highly skilled workers to reflect market standards and enhance workforce motivation.
- Focus on rural connectivity, with a commitment to resolving transportation issues faced by workers commuting from remote areas to industrial zones.
Strategic Initiatives Discussed:
- Sustainable employment generation in high-growth and emerging sectors.
- Industry-aligned training programs, tailored to current and future vacancies across sectors.
- Labour Department database sharing, enabling industries to streamline recruitment processes.
- Skill development assistance via government-backed initiatives and partnerships.
- Mandatory implementation of PMSBY (Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana) for workforce welfare across industries.
- On-the-job diploma programs, particularly in areas like instrumentation, to enhance industrial upskilling.
Additional Focus Areas:
- Creation of a Labour Welfare Portal to ensure transparency in employee benefits and entitlements.
- Encouragement of Goan contractors to reduce reliance on external workforce and boost local employment.
- Deployment of GHRDC personnel in roles such as security and housekeeping.
- Strengthened compliance monitoring mechanisms to ensure timely wages and adherence to labour laws.
- Incorporation of sector-specific recommendations from industry bodies for targeted skilling efforts.
Chief Minister Dr. Sawant reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready workforce for Goa. “By working in unison with industry partners, we aim to empower our youth, address workforce challenges, and open up sustainable employment opportunities,” he said.
This proactive initiative is expected to transform Goa’s employment landscape through innovation, strategic partnerships, and skills-first development.
