New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against a chief engineer of Konkan Railways for allegedly demanding and accepting bribes to clear pending bills of a company involved in the construction of the Katara-Dharam section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway link project, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Sumeet Khajuria, a 2005-batch Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) officer, has been named in the FIR along with Paras Railtech Private Limited and its directors—Rajesh Kumar Jain, Pushp Raj Singh, and Sulabh Rawat. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to the CBI, Khajuria and the company’s directors were involved in corrupt practices related to clearing pending bills and revising estimates for the removal of tunnel muck during the execution of this crucial railway project. The project is being supervised by Konkan Railway Corporation Limited and is considered one of India’s most ambitious railway infrastructure developments.

The CBI’s action comes as part of its ongoing crackdown on corruption in public infrastructure projects. Further investigations are underway, and the agency is expected to gather more evidence regarding the alleged bribery.
